Thank you for visiting the Greater South Norfolk Business Consortium website! The GSNBC is committed to contributing to the revitalization of “South Norfolk: Gateway to Business in Chesapeake.” Located in the heart of southeastern Virginia’s Hampton Roads region, South Norfolk is not only one of the most convenient locations in the mid-Atlantic region for businesses, it offers an extraordinary transportation network that includes four interstate highways, two major railways, the deepwater Port of Hampton Roads via the Elizabeth River and Norfolk International Airport…just 20 minutes away.
In 2009, South Norfolk began the first of a four-phase revitalization plan with the Grand Opening of The Gateway at SoNo (pictured above), featuring professional office space and condominiums. The Gateway at SoNo represents the beginning of an exciting era for a region long-recognized as much for its potential as a vital business destination as for its extraordinary heritage.
As Chesapeake’s pioneering industrial center, South Norfolk boasts a tradition of hard work and accomplishment. The area offers several unique sources of labor including exiting military personnel, military spouses, college students and extra-regional commuters. South Norfolk, where Chesapeake began, has a distinguished place in history as the city’s first neighborhood dating back to the Colonial Period. Its main streets shine with gracious Victorian homes within walking distance from the Gateway where development plans include attracting restaurants, retail, entertainment and other amenities that will serve local residents, our business community and the entire Hampton Roads region. South Norfolk is poised for an incredible future…and the GSNBC is very excited to be a part of that future!
Located in “Virginia’s Finest City,” South Norfolk also offers a mild four-season climate and close proximity to outdoor recreational activities such as golf, tennis, boating and fishing that can be enjoyed almost all year. In addition, outdoor festivities, a wide variety of fascinating museums and a lively cultural arts community provide a stimulating environment for relaxation as well as enrichment.
